Getting started
Ask Meddy is an AI-powered health platform that listens to your health question, gathers clinical context, searches peer-reviewed medical literature, and connects you with a real board-certified physician via video when meaningful guidance is needed. Think of it as the intelligent bridge between a health question and a qualified answer.
Starting a conversation with Meddy is free. The AI intake and evidence search are included at no cost. Connecting with a physician via video is a paid service. Pricing is displayed before you confirm the call — there are no surprise charges.
You can start a conversation without an account. Creating an account allows you to save your conversation history, access your visit summary after a physician call, and continue care through Meddy Health.
You can ask about symptoms you're experiencing, lab results you don't understand, chronic condition management, medication questions, lifestyle and health optimization, or anything health-related that's been on your mind. Ask Meddy is not designed for medical emergencies — if you are experiencing a life-threatening situation, call 911 immediately.
No. Ask Meddy is designed to complement your existing care — not replace it. It's ideal for getting answers between appointments, understanding lab results, or addressing concerns that don't warrant an emergency visit but can't wait three weeks for a regular appointment.
The AI conversation typically takes 3–5 minutes to gather enough context. Most patients connect with a physician within 8–12 minutes of starting. The physician visit itself is typically 15–20 minutes depending on the complexity of your question.
The AI & evidence
General AI tools like ChatGPT are trained on broad internet data and can generate plausible-sounding but inaccurate medical information. Ask Meddy uses a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system that searches 80 million peer-reviewed academic papers from PubMed and Semantic Scholar in real time. Every response is grounded in published medical literature — with sources you can verify yourself.
RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) means the AI retrieves relevant research papers before generating a response, rather than relying solely on what it was trained on. In healthcare, this matters enormously — it's the difference between an answer grounded in the latest clinical evidence and one that could be outdated, incomplete, or simply made up. RAG eliminates hallucinations by anchoring every claim to a real, citable source.
Ask Meddy searches two databases: PubMed (the National Library of Medicine's repository of 35M+ peer-reviewed biomedical papers, operated by the NIH) and Semantic Scholar (the Allen Institute for AI's index of 200M+ academic papers across medicine, biology, and health sciences). Both are continuously updated.
Yes. Every response includes cited sources with the paper title, journal name, and PubMed or Semantic Scholar ID. You can look up any source directly to read the original research.
No AI system is infallible, and Ask Meddy is not a substitute for clinical judgment. What the RAG system does is significantly reduce the risk of inaccurate responses by grounding answers in published evidence rather than generating them from memory. The physician consultation adds a human layer of clinical judgment on top of the AI-gathered context.
Before connecting you with a physician, Meddy's AI gathers structured clinical information — your chief complaint, duration of symptoms, relevant history, prior tests, and other contextual factors. This is organised into a clinical schema that is shared with the physician before your call begins, so they understand your full picture without you having to repeat yourself.
The physicians
Yes. Every physician on Ask Meddy is a real, board-certified, actively licensed medical doctor. Credentials are verified before any physician joins the platform. You will always see the physician's name, specialty, and board certification status before your call begins.
Our physician network includes Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Endocrinology, and other specialties relevant to the most common patient concerns — metabolic health, chronic disease management, lab interpretation, preventive care, and general health questions. Specialty matching is handled based on your clinical intake.
Yes. This is one of the most important features of Ask Meddy. Your full clinical context — everything gathered during the AI intake, along with the relevant evidence retrieved — is shared with the physician before the video call begins. You will not need to repeat your story from the beginning.
Prescribing capability depends on state regulations and the clinical situation. Some physicians on our platform are able to issue prescriptions where appropriate and legally permitted. This will be communicated clearly during your visit if relevant to your care.
After your visit you receive a written summary with recommended next steps. If ongoing care is needed, you can continue with the same physician through Meddy Health, which provides continuous physician access, lab ordering, and biomarker tracking.
Privacy & HIPAA
Yes. Ask Meddy is fully HIPAA compliant. All health information you share is treated as Protected Health Information (PHI) under HIPAA regulations. Our infrastructure — including data storage, transmission, and processing — meets all HIPAA technical, administrative, and physical safeguard requirements.
Your health information is only shared with the physician you connect with during your session. It is never shared with third parties, advertisers, or any external organisation. Our team operates under strict access controls and auditing protocols.
Conversations are stored securely and encrypted so that you can access your visit history and summary. You have the right to request deletion of your data at any time. We do not use your conversation data to train AI models or for any purpose outside of your direct care experience.
No. We do not sell, license, or monetise your health information under any circumstances. Ask Meddy does not serve advertising, and your data is never used for commercial purposes beyond powering your own care experience.
Yes. All video calls are conducted over an encrypted, HIPAA-compliant telehealth connection. Calls are not recorded without your explicit consent.

We are actively working to expand to additional states. If your state isn't currently listed, you can join our waitlist and we'll notify you as soon as service becomes available in your area.
Physicians are matched to patients based on the patient's state of residence to ensure full legal compliance. All physicians in our network hold the appropriate licensure for the states they serve. You will always be matched with a physician licensed to practice in your state.

After your visit
After every physician visit you receive a written visit summary — including what was discussed, the evidence that informed the guidance, and specific recommended next steps. This is sent to your account and can be referenced at any time.
Yes. Your visit summary is yours to share. Many patients find it useful to bring their Ask Meddy summary to their primary care physician as context for a follow-up appointment.
You can start a new conversation with Meddy at any time. If your situation requires ongoing care, we recommend exploring Meddy Health — our connected health platform that provides continuous physician access, lab ordering, and long-term health tracking.
